The Holidays Are Approaching

So Halloween is over. I still have some candy left…………. only some. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving. We have been cleaning like crazy. (Okay, I’m exaggerating a little.) It’s almost dinner time and we are having one of my favorites: Biscuits with sausage gravy. I know, it’s more of a breakfast thing, but I LOVE it!

Nothing “Halloweenish” to Write

I feel like writing something ‘‘blood curdling” and ”bone rattling”, but I can’t think of anything so you should be very thankful. I would want to put an evil laugh after that, but I’m not sure how.

Halloween

Halloween. Almost here. Supposed to be freezing. Maybe I’ll stay in. Maybe I’ll sit at an upstairs window and watch little bumblebees and witches and ghosts walk up and down the streets, shouting “TRICK OR TREAT!” and avoiding the big kids with monster masks. Maybe I’ll miss the candy apples that our neighbor always gives out. Maybe I’ll skip the pillowcase filled with sweets, and maybe I’ll sneak just one Milky Way from my sister’s candy. Maybe I’ll just go to bed early, and listen to the little kids shout “BOO” to each other. Maybe I’ll stay in for Halloween. Ha. Yeah right.

Goodbye Summer

I really can not believe summer is OVER! In fact, writing this blog post is part of school. A sort of cool part about school is that I have a new system that I’m doing. It’s a unit study, well that’s what my mom calls it. I’m studying natural history, the victorian era, botany, and literature. The whole system sort of revolves around the book, “Anne of Green Gables”, which I am excited about because I’ve never read the whole thing before. My youngest brother is behind me, trying to write cursive, and every once in a while I here,”Look!” And then I here my mom correcting him and saying, “Try to slant it a little,” or, “Circle then down.” and I guess my brother got tired of it because he asked if he could work on his math. If I were him, I would work on cursive because I don’t really enjoy putting all those numbers back in my head after three months of swimming, basketball, tennis and other things that have nothing to do with adding, subtracting and dividing fractions. Well, I guess I should get back to my other schoolwork now. Goodbye summer!……..(sob)

The French Open

I’m sitting here watching the men’s final in the French Open and I’m trying to explain to my brother that a game point does not mean match point. He doesn’t get it. I’m still a sort of shocked about the little scene in the second set. If you don’t know what happened, let me explain: This guy came out of nowhere and had on one of those hats that people have on when they’re graduating. He took it off, ran over to Federer and tried to put it on him. Then security guards came out and the guy started running around the court! Finally, a security guard made a spectacular tackle and four other guards dragged him away. After that, Federer seemed really shaken up, because after he won the first set 6-1, he won the second set 7-6 winning the tiebreaker. (My brother seemed very proud of Roger because he had five aces in the tiebreaker.) It’s the third set Roger is up 5-3 and down in the game 30-40. Yikes! He just lost the game. It’s Roger’s serve. Its 30-40 in the game. Okay, It’s deuce now. AAAACK!! Match point! He serves, Soderling hits it in the net!!!!! ROGER WON THE FRENCH OPEN FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!! Sorry, just a little excited. I have to go now, I have to watch the people hand Roger the trophy!

Baseball Season

My brother is playing baseball. He has just about three games a week, not including the games he gets called up for the older team. I’m really involved with the team because I’m the scorekeeper. My dad is the official assistant coach for the team and my other brother is the bat boy. Recently, they had a game against their, actually the whole league’s, enemies. My brother’s team was the away team, so they got to bat first. My brother, let’s just call him Tiger, was up first. He got a single. that was the only hit that inning. The rest were the outs and they went one, two, three. Then the other team was up. They scored six runs that first inning. Eventually, our team got the three outs and we were up at bat again. We scored zero. They made the outs quickly and they got up to bat again. It went on like that until we all had no hope of winning and the whole team was happy when we scored one run. That made the score one to twelve. After we scored that first run, the team was joking around and saying,”Okay guys we can still do this!” or, “Oh yeah, we’re making a come back!” or, “All right, only down by eleven!” But when we scored six more runs, they were really going crazy! After the sixth run the other team got the third out, (they got the first two before the runs) so they got up to bat. The other team scored five more runs. Then we scored five more! Then they scored one more. Then we scored six more to make it eighteen eighteen! So there were two outs and it was tied at eighteen and the bottom of our order was coming up. Then the other team just started walking everybody. I guess it was all the pressure that got him, but they put a new pitcher in and he walked people too! Soon we were ahead by three runs. Then, a boy on “Tiger’s” team was running to third and somehow the third baseman got the ball and tagged him out. So that made three outs. The other team got to bat one more time, and our coaches put Tiger in to pitch. Then, a sister of one of the players on our team started singing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider.” She said it would bring the team good luck. Sure enough, Tiger struck out the first batter! I looked at the sister and she said,”I told you! I told you! ‘The itsy bitsy spider went up the……” I went back to watching the game. I forget what the count was but it didn’t really matter because Tiger struck out the next batter! We were going CRAZY!!!!! So was the crowd. One more out! Tiger delivered the first pitch. This is the pitch order: strike, strike, ball, STRIKE THREE!!!!! We all went bananas! The teams lined up and shook hands and said “nice game” and we all went home. What a great win! Thank goodness for the itsy bitsy spider!

Pancake Pro

On Thursday last week, my dad taught me how to make pancakes. Usually every week on his day off, he makes breakfast, and it’s either pancakes, french toast, waffles, or omelets. Last week it was pancakes and I helped him make them for the first time. Each week when the breakfast day comes, my dad buys some bacon or sausage, and I stand by the stove and cook that. Not last week! I got up and said “Okay, This time I want to make the pancakes.” And he taught me how. A few days went by and then I felt like having pancakes again. So I said,”Why don’t I make pancakes for lunch?” Everyone thought that was a good idea and so I went at it. I had to make a double order, so I had to double the recipe on the box of pancake mix. Two cups of pancake mix. One and a half cups of milk. Two eggs, two tablespoons of oil. Mix until all the big lumps are gone then let the batter sit to thicken. Plug in the griddle. You will know when griddle is hot enough when a drop of water sizzles and then disappears almost right away. I did all that and then put the pancakes on. The griddle that we have can make eight pancakes at a time, so I put on eight pancakes and after a couple of minutes, I flipped them. They were a very pretty golden brown, and looked very appetizing! When they were done, I grabbed everyone’s plates and put two pancakes on each. I called everybody to the table. Everyone sat down and looked at them. My brother took the first bite. “These are really good!” he said. I smiled, I was glad they turned out okay. My youngest brother had seven or eight, I lost count, but I guess that meant they were good. After lunch, I had to clean up. It was actually pretty easy! I put the griddle back where it belonged and then thought,”I can’t wait until next time!”

The 39 Clues Series, “The Maze of Bones”

If you want a great book with a lot of adventure and just enough mystery to make it intense and exciting, “The Maze of Bones” is the book for you. Its about two kids named Amy and Dan who belong to one of the most important and well known families in the whole world. They find this out at their grandmother’s funeral when the mystery begins. Then all of a sudden, they are in a race to go all around the world, competing against their cousins to see who can get to the end of the 39 clues first. Soon after the race begins, they find out (the hard way!) how dangerous this really is, and what else they might have to go through. This book carries you through lots of different countries, and each country holds it’s own exciting clue that leads everyone closer to the end of the race. I loved this book, and think other people will too, the only complaint about it is that it starts a little slow. Also, if you liked this book, you should read the second book and third book too. They are just as amazing as the first!

My Sister’s Birthday

Yesterday was my sister’s ninth birthday. It was pretty busy, but fun. As birthday gifts our parents got her a scooter, a dress for her doll, a webkinz and a pack of markers. I gave her an amish doll that I had. Also a little porcelain doll that I got from somewhere and a stuffed dog. I put all of this in a basket with a piece of cloth in the bottom and put something under the cloth. When I gave it to her, she was really happy and then I said, “That’s not all!” she didn’t really know where to look and was looking on the dolls to see if I put something on them. Then my mom said, “Maybe she hid something under the cloth!” so she looked. Jackpot! Underneath the cloth were my little “Calico Critters”. They are little animal figurines. Their arms and legs can move and their really just cute and fun to play with, but they were getting a little boring for me, and my sister loves them, so I gave them to her. I can’t even describe how funny it was to watch her unveil them! She put a hand to her chest closed her eyes and said, “Just, just give me a minute.” and she pretended to faint. After she opened her presents, we had breakfast which was my dad’s famous french toast and sausage. Then my dad had to leave for work and the rest of us went to a local craft store and got some things for a “wee garden” (See “blogroll”-I haven’t figured out how too insert a link into the text yet). We got home from the craft store and stayed for a half an hour and then went to visit our dad at work. We brought lunch and birthday cake and we sang “Happy Birthday”. Then we played tennis. After we played tennis we went home. My sister was allowed to pick the dinner and she picked a pasta with a creamy, cheesy sauce, ham and mushrooms. Sort of like macaroni but different. After dinner we played outside for a while and then got ready for bed. It seemed like a satisfying birthday.
